Artist’s Statement:
I am a Limerick Artist. Poetry is a big inspiration for my paintings, particularly the
work of Irish poets. I have painted poems by W.B. Yeats, Seamus Heaney, Austin
Clarke, Leonard Cohen, among others. I like to interpret and create a painting
from a poem/lyrics, turning the words into colour and form. My paintings are also inspired by the landscapes I like to walk through and immerse myself in. This can be seen in my series of paintings of ‘The Burren’, ‘The Wild Atlantic Way’ and ‘Camino de Santiago de Compostella’. While hiking through these mystical landscapes I capture the essence in photographs and then create paintings. I also paint local  landscapes/landmarks.
I mainly use oils and acrylics on canvas, linen, board and watercolour paper. I like bright, vibrant colours. My artworks are included in the Limerick City and County Council Permanent Collection. I have taken part in a number of group exhibitions. I am a self taught painter with a Dip. in Interior Design and an M.A. in the History of Art and Architecture. The Painting on display is inspired by the poem by W.B. Yeats, ‘He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven’.
