Lavery & Osborne Observing Life
A tale of two painters John Lavery and Walter Osborne who were contemporaries who came from very different Irelands. The first was the Belfast Catholic son of an unsuccessful publican and the second, a Dublin Protestant from the family of a moderately successful animal painter.
Lavery and Osbourne documented life on canvas during the late 19th and early 20th century. Their paintings were clear pictorial records of life at the time. Lavery tended to depict small moments during events or in public places, while Osbourne tended to focus on the more private quiet moments. This catalogue is filled with many high resolution images of a selection of works by both artists.
